Great collections of short pieces for winds: American composer Vincent Persichetti’s
Divertimento for Band and German composer Ernst Toch’s Spiel für Bläser.
Our featured soloist is Kathleen McLean, one of the most acclaimed bassoonists in North America,
in von Weber’s Hungarian Fantasy. Also music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Grainger.

Bluevale Collegiate Chamber Choir

The Wellington Winds and the Bluevale Collegiate Chamber Choir join in presenting
a concert of seasonal favourites and other holiday selections, both classical and contemporary.
Included are Alfred Reed's Russian Christmas Music and Sleigh Rides by Leroy Anderson and Frederick Delius.

A programme of music inspired and derived from song including Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture,
Wagner's Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin, Strauss' Overture to Die Fledermaus, Fucik's Florentiner March,
Alfred Reed's setting of Black is the colour of my true love’s hair, and John Barnes Chance's
Variations on a Korean Folk Song.
Soprano Sandra Tucker is our featured soloist in Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs.
This concert will help raise funds for the Eating Disorders Awareness Coalition.

Our season finale presents music by composers from Great Britain and the colonies.
From Britain, Vaughn-William's Toccata Marziale, Malcolm Arnold's Tam O'Shanter,
and Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1. From Australia, Grainger's Colonial Song and Londonderry Air.
From Canada, Howard Cable's Snake Fence Country, Morley Calvert's Romantic Variations,
Jack Sirulnikoff's Nova Scotia Fantasy, and the Halton Regimental March "The Campbells Are Comin".
Also featured is the Cimarosa/Benjamin Concerto for Oboe with our own conductor laureate Michael Purves- Smith.
